Being bold means stepping up – without being asked.  Two years ago, I sat on a panel of alumni, who were given the responsibility of granting scholarships on behalf of a foundation.  There was one particular young lady whose story simply resonated with me.  She is the first in her family to go to college; she lost her mother at a young age; most of the men in her family were incarcerated, and she was working full-time and attended community college to try to break the cycle of poverty.  I reached out to her and asked if she would be interested in having me as a mentor –and I’m proud to say that she will graduate from Texas A&M this year.
