Citi Legal is an integrated, global function that has responsibility for providing legal advice to the Board of Directors, senior management, businesses, legal entities and other functions on legal and regulatory issues and for reporting, escalating, and resolving legal matters appropriately. Approximately 1,200 in-house attorneys and an additional 280 staff are assigned to support global products, regions and global programs with a focus on key areas of legal risk and key legal entities.

The Citi Global Ethics Office, part of Legal, is responsible for establishing and communicating Citi’s ethical values and principles through Citi’s Code of Conduct and Code of Conduct training, managing Citi’s Ethics Hotline, working with business and control functions to identify control enhancements, and reporting on significant matters to Citi’s internal and external stakeholders.

Based in Irving, Texas, the Ethics Officer – Ethics Attorney is a VP who will report to a Director/Ethics Officer in Citi’s Global Ethics Office and ultimately to Citi’s Chief Ethics Officer. The Ethics Office works with partners all over the world, including with other Citi control functions, to communicate Citi’s values and expectations of employee behavior, handle internal investigations of employee-related issues and to identify and escalate matters, as appropriate.

This position will be responsible for providing support to the Director/Ethics Officer in the development, administration, and advancement of Citi’s global Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, other ethics trainings, and Ethics Office communications, as well as in the review of Citi-level and other Citi policies, procedures, and standards. This role will also assist in the preparation of Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and other related reports and metrics for distribution to senior management, business committees, internal and external auditors, and regulators – and effective interaction with these internal and external stakeholders.

The role is expected to partner with those leading Citi’s ongoing cultural transformation efforts, informed by ethics-related investigations and concepts from the Code of Conduct and other Ethics Office communication efforts. It also contemplates strong partnership with Citi’s Global Public Affairs function, as well as other businesses and functions, to review, draft, and advise, as applicable, on Citi corporate communications relating to the Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and the Ethics Office, as well as Citi regulatory filings pertaining to the same.

The role also has some expected participation in the effective management of ethics-related investigations across control and enterprise-support functions within North America. In that capacity, the role must coordinate the timely investigation and effective management of matters reported to the Ethics Office, provide direction and guidance to investigation partners performing ethics-related investigations, and liaise with partners in HR, ER, CSIS, and other functions, as appropriate, on investigations and other Ethics Office initiatives.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 3 years of litigation, prosecutorial, investigations, employment law, or regulatory experience, including familiarity with the financial services industry and products, and a strong understanding and familiarity with a global, corporate environment.

The successful candidate will also have an interest in industrial and organizational psychology, and superior project management skills.

Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills (written and oral) are critical, as this individual will work in a high volume, fast-paced environment.

The primary responsibilities will include:

Providing support in the administration of Citi’s global Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, other ethics trainings, and Ethics Office communications.

Project management for Ethics Office deliverables including Citi’s global Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, other Ethics Office trainings, and Ethics Office communications.

Preparation of reports and metrics for distribution to senior management, business committees, internal and external auditors, and regulators.

Participate in review of Citi-level and other Citi policies, procedures, and standards on behalf of the Ethics Office.

Reviewing Citi corporate communications relating to the Code of Conduct, Code of Conduct training, and the Ethics Office, as well as regulatory filings pertaining to the same.

Partnering across functions and businesses on Citi’s cultural transformation initiatives.

Evaluating concerns reported to the Ethics Office and determining assignment of matters reported to the Ethics Office to the appropriate control function partners, as needed.

Effectively managing the investigation of matters reported to the Ethics Office, including active monitoring and follow up with control function partners performing Ethics Office investigations.

Providing direction and guidance to control function partners performing Ethics Office investigations.

Candidates Must Have:

A Juris Doctor degree

A license in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state

Outstanding writing and analytical skills

Ability to both work independently and collaborate with team members

Excellent project management and organizational skills and capability to handle multiple projects at one time

Exceedingly organized, with a highly developed attention to detail

Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging
