Continuing the Conversation – October 29

Primarily to address female attrition in the higher ranks of law firms, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and the Dallas Women Lawyers Association created the Continuing the Conversation Interview Series. In the past, the series has highlighted an inspiring group of female judges and general counsel from the Dallas legal community.
This fall, we’re doing something we’ve never done before. Don’t miss this event!
On October 29, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Belo Mansion, Continuing the Conversation will host an extremely impressive panel of women in commercial real estate. With even fewer women entering commercial real estate than the law, the challenges are strikingly similar. Over lunch, these panelists will share their insight on navigating a male-dominated profession and rising to the top of their field, providing fresh ideas and a completely unique perspective. Panelists include:
- Sue Ansel, Chief Executive Officer, Gables Residential. Gables owns, develops and manages apartment homes in nine states, plus Washington DC, including several signature properties in Dallas: Gables McKinney Ave., Gables Park 17, Gables Uptown Trail, and Gables Villa Rosa. The current portfolio under management is approximately 30,000 apartment homes. In over 30 years with Gables, Sue has held positions in acquisitions, development, and operations. Outside of her work at Gables, Sue serves on several boards including as the Chairwoman of the National Multi-Housing Council and the advisory board of Dallas Summer Musicals.
- Mona Carlton, Senior Managing Director, JLL/HFF. Mona is one of eight original members of HFF’s predecessor firm – Holliday Fenoglio – formed in 1984. By 2018, the firm had grown to over 1,500 employees, and posted capital markets production volume exceeding $100B. Mona was HFF’s only female partner when the firm issued its IPO in 2007. She has been involved with more than $21B of commercial real estate transactions in her career. Outside of her work at HFF/JLL, she currently serves as a board member of the National Multi-Housing Council, as well as on the Urban Land Institute Multi-Housing Council.
- Patricia Gibson, Chief Executive Officer, Banner Oak Capital Partners. Patricia is a founding principal and CEO of Banner Oak Capital Partners. Banner Oak was launched from its predecessor firm, Hunt Realty Investments, and focuses on value creation and capital preservation across market cycles with a unique focus on the active management of real estate operating platform and assets. The company has over $2 billion in assets under management. Patricia also serves or has served in in leadership positions with the UT Real Estate Finance Council, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers and on the boards of Pacolet Milliken Enterprises and RLJ Lodging Trust.
The panel will be moderated by Deborah K. Wright, Vice President and General Counsel, Prudential Asset Resources (“PAR”). Deborah advises PAR on a litany of issues related to its $100B portfolio of commercial real estate loans. Prior to joining PAR, Deborah served as General Counsel of Asset Management Company of America (formerly a Goldman Sachs subsidiary). She also serves as Prudential Financial’s legal department liaison to the National Association of Women Lawyers (“ NAWL”) and is a member of NAWL’s board of directors.
