Make Your Mark!: How You Can Join the Legal Community
The Dallas Women Lawyers Association 2021 Leadership Class is excited to announce its class project! This summer, the Leadership Class partnered with the Dallas Bar Association’s Equality Committee to research and develop content for a presentation entitled: “Make Your Mark!: How You Can Join the Legal Community.” The purpose of the “Make Your Mark!” presentation is to educate local students on the function of law in society and to encourage the pursuit of a career in law among diverse populations—it is not out of reach!
The 2021 Leadership Class has already delivered the presentation to local Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas with overwhelming success. The “Make Your Mark!” presentation will continue this fall at schools in the Dallas ISD. The DWLA and DBA Equality Committee will be asking you to dedicate an hour of your time to help present to DISD students in the upcoming months. Volunteers will be fully equipped with a PowerPoint presentation, instructions, discussion topics, and enthusiasm.
The presentation consists of interactive games, fun videos, and opportunities for practicing attorneys to share why they chose to join the legal profession. Students will learn an overview of their basic legal rights, important laws that have shaped American society, and the benefits of pursuing a career in law. They will also learn about how to exercise their rights and responsibilities and promote civility in their communities. Please stay tuned for dates to get involved!
The Leadership Class has created an Amazon Wish List to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs in Grand Prairie, East Dallas, and Oak Cliff, where the presentations took place in July. The Amazon Wish List contains books that align with the content of the presentations, as well as much-needed school supplies.
