Run to the Polls Virtual 5K!

The Dallas Women Lawyers Association’s 2020 Leadership Class is excited to announce its class project: “Run to the Polls.” Run to the Polls is a virtual 5k run honoring the 100th anniversary of women’s constitutional right to vote. This event is intended to increase awareness around the importance of voting and participating in our democracy. To this end, the 2020 Leadership Class will be raising funds for the League of Women Voters, an organization dedicated to empowering voters. By hosting Run to the Polls, the 2020 Leadership Class hopes to continue the work of the women before them by increasing voter awareness in local, state, and national elections.

CONTACT US ABOUT THE 5K!

DWLA Run to the Polls Virtual 5K FAQs:

  • Participants can run/walk 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) any time during the week of July 20-26th, anywhere they choose! You can complete the distance all at once or over multiple days.

  • Everybody and anybody!  There is no age limit and there are no restrictions.  So run, jog, walk, crawl, run alone, run in a group, run with your pet, bike or hike.  It doesn’t matter!  We just encourage you to get out there and get moving!
  • Kids are also welcome to join your run under your donation.

  • Before the 5K: 
    • Register on the DWLA Run to the Polls website. As part of your paid registration, you will receive: a downloadable race bib that you can personalize, print, and run with!
    • Follow us at the DWLA Instagram page @dallaswomenlawyers!
  • During the 5K: Take selfies while you run and post them on your social media using #DWLARuntothePolls and tag @dallaswomenlawyers!
  • After the 5K: Once you have finished the 5K, fill out the completion form on the DWLA Run to the Polls website so that you can receive a customizable completion certificate!

  • You’re welcome to participate in groups! You can register as a group and create a custom donation that accounts for all the participants of the group.

  • No. However, as part of our Run to the Polls mission, we encourage eligible citizens to register to vote.

  • No. If you wish to make a larger donation, use the custom donation option on the registration form.

  • You should participate in this 5K to:
    • (1) join the DWLA’s 2020 Leadership Class in building awareness around the importance of voting and participating in our democracy;
    • (2) get active in an enjoyable and fulfilling way;
    • (3) raise funds for the meaningful work of the Dallas League of Women Voters.

  • Each year DWLA selects women law students for its Leadership Class based on a demonstrated commitment to elevating the standing of women in the legal profession.  This program benefits them by providing tools to develop professional skills in law, business, government, the nonprofit sector, and the judiciary.  In return, the Class organizes a relevant service project for the end of their summer.

  • The Dallas LWV believes in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy by promoting active citizen participation in the government and closing the prevalent gap between voter registration and voter turnout in Dallas.
